Peak Performance Buoyancy

COURSE DURATION: 1 & 1/2 day

PREREQUISITE COURSE: PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver (or qualifying entry-level certification)
SWIMMING SKILLS: Required
MIN. AGE: 10 yrs

The difference between the more novice and the experienced scuba divers becomes apparent as they reach drifting depth. The less experienced halt their descent by turning vertically, kicking, grabbing, and using their BCD inflators. The experienced divers stay horizontal and, without any apparent change in their actions, simply stop descending. It's fascinating to watch.

Then as you drift along, the novice divers fluctuate as much as 1 or 2 meters, constantly adjusting their BCDs. Experienced scuba divers have very little depth change except when they want to look at something.

The novices manage to control their buoyancy, but the more experienced control it effortlessly. Experienced divers use less energy and seem to enjoy the dive more, and they have a lot more air left when they get back onboard the boat.

This is the difference between buoyancy control and Peak Performance Buoyancy control; you can achieve it too. One way to master buoyancy is by diving frequently. Still, a better way is to train for it, like with the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty program, starting with the Peak Performance Buoyancy Adventure Dive in the Advanced Open Water Diver course. Join the upper echelons of dive proficiency; distinguish yourself with top-class buoyancy control!

PADI's Peak Performance Buoyancy class is the perfect opportunity to hone your buoyancy skills and a great way to get the benefits of peak performance buoyancy. Perfect your buoyancy, and you'll have longer dives due to better air use; you'll save energy, observe aquatic life without disturbing it, and learn about environmentally friendly diving techniques to conserve our precious marine environment. Your program will include 2 open-water dives, which may be conducted in just 1 day.

Some of the topics covered in your PPB program are weight position and distribution for perfect balance, streamlining and trimming to save energy, use of weighting guidelines, buoyancy checks to determine the exact weight that you need, positioning and distributing weight for comfort and desired body position, visualization techniques prior to dives, efficient use of air, establishing neutral buoyancy and hovering - vertical or horizontal - during all segments of a scuba dive. You will receive a PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy paperback manual and watch the Peak Performance Buoyancy video.

The elective Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive conducted during the Adventure Diver program may be counted toward this specialty.

Deep Diver

COURSE DURATION: 2 days

MAX. DEPTH: 40m

PREREQUISITE COURSE: PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
SWIMMING SKILLS: Required

MIN. AGE: 15 yrs

Take the challenge and add some depth to your underwater adventures!

It's one of those memorable moments of diving when the conditions, gear and companionship come together for an amazing experience.

PADI's Deep Diver program offers a thrilling adventure of a lifetime - going deep to see things others only dream about.

If the idea of deep diving excites you, take the PADI Deep Diver Specialty course. You'll learn how to manage the added risk of going deep and how to be prepared for emergencies and errors. You will likely find it a rewarding challenge that helps you grow as a scuba diver.

The program includes 4 open water dives conducted over at least 2 days. All your dives will be conducted within the no-decompression limits. During your program, you'll cover the knowledge, skills and techniques needed to dive deep. Topics covered include:

  • Planning, organization, procedures, problems and hazards of deep diving;

  • Risk factors and decompression-tables review;

  • Safety stops and emergency decompression procedures;

  • Special equipment, descent lines and buoyancy-control considerations;

  • Procedures for flying after diving and high-altitude diving;

  • Orientation to recompression chambers.

PADI Deep Diver training is important because our margin for error narrows with depth. That's not an issue, provided nothing goes wrong, and you make no mistakes. As we go deeper, we use air faster and have shorter no-stop limits. The surface is much farther away and harder to reach. Conditions, combined with depth, also affect your risk. In recreational diving, we define 'deep' as 18 meters to no more than 40 meters.

The core Deep Dive conducted during the Adventure Diver program may be counted toward this speciality, and the course is 1 step towards your PADI Master Scuba Diver certification.

Under Water Navigation

COURSE DURATION: 1 day

PREREQUISITE COURSE: PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver (or qualifying entry-level certification)

SWIMMING SKILLS: Required

MIN. AGE: 10 yrs

Knowing where you are and where you're going on a dive is handy, especially if you're looking for an object or locating that beautiful reef you heard about.

You learned the basics in your PADI Open Water Diver Course, but the best way to nail navigation skills is in the PADI Underwater Navigator speciality course. As a PADI Underwater Navigator, you save time and air by getting where you're going via the most efficient route. You avoid long surface swims because you find your way to and from the boat or entry/exit point entirely underwater.

During your PADI Underwater Navigator program, you'll go on three open water scuba dives, familiarizing yourself with the skills, knowledge, planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and enjoyment of underwater navigation.

You'll learn methods of estimating distance underwater, how to use underwater patterns, dive site relocation techniques, and compass navigation techniques. You'll learn to use your compass accurately, what the environment tells you about where you are, and to use specialized navigation tools like the Nav-Finder.

The elective Navigation dive during your Adventure Diver program may count toward this speciality.
